If you come
from the highway number A1 (from Rome or from Milan), exit at "Firenze
Nord".
If you are
driving the highway number A11 (from Pisa or from Lucca to Florence), you
have simply to arrive at its end.
In both
cases, you will get into the area of the airport.
Just at the
end of the highway, you will pass under a large railway bridge
and,
just a few metres after this bridge, keep the left lane on this road
(called "viale degli
Astronauti"); DON'T GO RIGHT because the
right one goes to a long bridge for cars to the wrong direction.
After 50
metres and a couple of curves, the road gets wider ("viale Guidoni") and you
can notice two petrol pumps on the right side.
You have to
go straight on (NOT on the left lanes) along this road and pass under
another railway bridge.
After that,
you will drive on a large road with a lot of high palaces on the right.
You are
still driving along "viale Guidoni".
You have to
keep on going straight ahead for about two kms
and pass through nine cross-lights.
After the
last cross-light of this large road, go ahead again and a little
uphill slope begins and the road makes a curve on the left.
At the top
of this slope ("piazza del Terzolle"),
you have to turn right passing on a bridge on a very little river.
And a
downhill slope takes you to a crossroads with a cross-light.
Turn left
and go straight on along a large road ("via Mariti")
that after 200 metres goes a bit downhill, under a large railway bridge and
steeply uphill, till a square called "piazza Dalmazia".
You don't
have to enter the middle of this square, just turn right at a cross-light
in a street ("via Corridoni") with a
lot of shops on the left side and a little park and a cinema on the right.
Go straight
on along this street.
Driving
along "via Corridoni", you'll pass
through three cross-lights and a little square ("piazza Tanucci") but keep on going ahead even if the
street gets narrower and changes its name (now it is called "via del Romito").
Around 200
metres after "piazza Tanucci", you will
see first a petrol pump on the left and then a series of three large railway
bridges and the street goes under them.
You have to
pass under the bridges in front of you.
After 50
metres, you will see a square with a car-parking (“piazza Baldinucci”) and a light uphill slope begins and it
arrives at a short bridge on a little river.
Once crossed
the bridge at the end of “via del Romito”, you
have to turn right and you will see that the road forks: it goes downhill
on the right and it stays at the same level of the bridge on the left.
Take the
left direction and you will enter a road that makes a wide bend on the left
and then goes downhill.
Now you will
see the high walls of a fortress on your left; go ahead until you will have
to turn left (round the corner of the fortress) and to enter a huge avenue
(“viale Strozzi”).
This avenue
will go underground in a 100-metres-long passage and you have to take the
right lane at this point.
Soon
afterwards the end of the underground passage, you will meet a cross-light
on the right at the beginning of a wide and straight avenue (“viale Lavagnini”); drive
along it for 250 metres till an other
cross-light.
You have to
turn right just before this cross-light and you will enter a narrow street
between a modern white palace and a chemist's shop ("Farmacia S.Caterina").
This street
(called "via Santa Caterina di
Alessandria"), after 100 metres, passes along the left side of a
large square ("piazza Indipendenza")
with trees and flower-beds.
At the first
cross-light you meet, go straight on.
Then you
won't see any more the square on your right, but shops on both sides of the
street.
You
are in "via Nazionale" now.
The first
thing you meet is a little cross-roads.
You have to
go right at this cross-roads and you will enter a narrow street called
"via Guelfa".
Drive along it
till a very little square ("piazza del Crocifisso").
Here turn
left and you could park for a while.
Then, if you
like, I could help you to find a good parking place.
My lodge is just
5 metres far from this square, just left, round the corner between the
square and "via Faenza" but you can't go there by car.
On the left
side of "via Faenza", you will notice a wooden door (open during
the day) at the number 66 (black).
There, ring at a white button where
there's "My Friends room rent" written.
You will meet me at the same floor
where you will be, after opening a black-ironed greized
gate.
You have
arrived at My Friends!!
